Goals

A goal tracks actions not covered by existing analytics, like button clicks, downloads, or specific page views such as a thank-you page after checkout.

Pageview

The pageview goal is easy to set up. It converts when a visitor reaches a specified page.

For example, a 'thank you' page after a conversion (newsletter, purchase, form submission).

Scroll percentage

The scroll goal converts when a visitor reaches a configured scroll percentage on a specified page.

For example, track when a visitor reads 75% of an article, pricing page, or landing page.

Scroll until element

The goal converts when the first element matching a CSS selector enters the viewport on a specified page. Elements already in the viewport also count.

For example, use #pricing to track visitors who reach your pricing section, or footer to track visitors who reach the end of a page.

Click on element

The goal converts when a visitor clicks an element matching a CSS selector on a specified page. Clicking an icon or text inside the matching element also counts.

For example, use .buy-button to track clicks on your purchase buttons, or #download to track clicks on a download link.

Webhook

Send a POST request to the private webhook URL shown when editing your goal. JSON and form data are supported. An empty POST also records a conversion.

Submit a value to record an actual amount, or omit it to use the configured conversion value. Only the conversion time and value are stored. Each accepted POST counts separately, including repeated requests. Webhook conversions are not linked to visitors, sessions, or page events.

Conversion values

Set an optional conversion value on any goal. The amount is saved with each new conversion, so changing the goal does not change historical values. Existing conversions without a value remain unchanged.

The goals chart shows conversion counts as a line and summed goal values as bars. Hover over a goal in the list to see its total value. Set the website currency to display it with all goal values. Changing the currency does not convert recorded amounts. Webhook conversions are included in totals but cannot match visitor or page filters.

Custom

Custom goals require extra code, specified when you create a new goal from the dashboard.

Use custom goals to track specific events not covered by pageview goals.

Examples of custom goals:

  • Tracking clicks on external links
  • Tracking advanced form submissions
  • Tracking clicks on specific page parts

Example of a JavaScript snippet for goal tracking:

.goal('my-goal');

When this code triggers, the goal conversion is recorded.

Example of code integrated into a button to trigger the Goal event:

<button type="button" onclick=".goal('my-goal')">Click me</button>
